How do I know I have mold in my ductless HVAC
My son kept talking about ductless HVAC system and one thing he stressed was how easy it is to get mold in your ductless HVAC if it isn’t cleaned regularly and properly.
I wanted to know how you would know if there was mold.
He gave me the four things to look for if you wanted to know if you had a mold issue in your ductless HVAC. The first sign was a dirty sock odor. I had never heard of the dirty sock syndrome, but he said it was a real thing. If you smelled what smelled like those gym bags he used to bring home, or like the inside of his sneakers, you knew you had a mold problem. Another obvious sign of mold is black or odd-colored splotches. Although these splotches may possibly be other things, it is common when there is mold in the system. Third is looking for moisture or standing water. You may see moisture beneath your air handler. You may also find puddles of standing water beneath the compressor. The final thing that is most dangerous is when you or a family member have respiratory problems or allergy symptoms. Individually, these four signs do not necessarily mean there is a definite mold problem, but they could be a sign that it is developing. When you develop more than one sign, or the doctor says you don’t have allergies, then it is time to look further at your HVAC system and look for a mold problem. My son says to follow your nose and if it tells you there is a problem with the HvAC, then you need to follow up with a professional.
