Can I overuse my HVAC system?
I’ve always wondered if I could ruin my HVAC system by running it too much.
- I mean, I take it for granted that I have really great indoor air quality.
I know that I’m very spoiled in the summer with my air conditioning system, and also in the winter with my high efficiency furnace system. I hardly ever think about my HVAC unit at all as long as it’s cooling and heating my house properly. I have a smart programmable thermostat system and I have it set to the proper temperatures to keep our house comfortable. Since I’m not really ever messing around with the thermostat, I rarely think about the heating or cooling unless it’s not doing what I think that it should! But is there such a thing as running your HVAC unit too much? Well, if you think about it this way, it might help. You don’t turn your refrigerator or your freezer off and on to save money on the power bill, and in the same way, you shouldn’t turn your HVAC system off and on manually either. Modern HVAC equipment is specially designed to come on and run automatically whenever needed. But if for some reason, you notice that your HVAC system seems to be running too long or it kicks off and on much more often than it needs to, you might need to call and make an appointment with a professional HVAC technician. If you have a professional out to thoroughly assess and maintain your heating and cooling system on a regular basis, then you probably won’t have any problems.
