A bad accident forced me into a wellness class
I never believed that at the age of 22 I would be in a wellness and recovery class.
I couldn’t believe how someone who just three months ago had been in perfect physical condition could suddenly have a difficult time walking.
I still don’t even remember what happened. I know I was driving down the road and someone just crashed into me. I was pinned under the dash for a couple hours. I had neck, leg and hip trauma and without physical therapy, I wasn’t going to be walk properly. I was afraid I would be in with a bunch of old fogeys who couldn’t walk anymore, but I was totally wrong. There were people of all ages at the gym. I couldn’t believe how painful it was to just take a few small steps holding onto bars. The personal trainer told me that it was going to take time, and the pain was part of the process. I even had some of physical fitness training in a pool to take the weight off my legs and to help strengthen my muscles. They told me that it was going to take more than just a couple physical training sessions to get me back to where I once was. With all of the certified fitness experts and the people who helped me in the pool, within a few short months, I was walking without crutches and that was a big feat. I still have a lot of pain at times, but the physical therapist tell me that it will lessen with time.
