I’m just another blip on the radar

My wife and I were in our first house for only a year. I know that doesn’t sound very out of the ordinary, as plenty of people find themselves out of their first home quickly for plenty of reasons. Some people realize that the house isn’t within their price range once they start making payments, while others quickly discover a hidden money pit within the house (I’m not talking about a pit full of money, mind you). For my wife and I, we began living in our first house only a month after we got married, so we were still in the easy-going honeymoon phase when we noticed things wrong in the house. Aside from a leaky roof during summer rains and a funny smell that would come from the attic during those rains, there was another big issue: our HVAC system stunk! I don’t just mean that it was subpar at performing heating and cooling functions, I mean it made the house smell like rotting garbage. We finally had enough of the A/C system making our house smell like a landfill, so we reached out to the heating and air conditioning service company that we’d used at our condo. The technician that arrived was quick to pinpoint the source of the smell, which was a build-up of mold in the ductwork of the HVAC system itself. We never would’ve thought to look for that! After he cleaned and disinfected the entire ductwork, the smell was gone. We were so thrilled and thankful for the smell to be gone, we knew we just had to keep this guy around somehow! That day, we signed up for a system maintenance plan. I’m glad we did, as the rest of the house was falling apart – but at least the HVAC system was in good shape!
