Last thing is the fireplace
A fireplace can add the ultimate level of coziness to any home, North or South, East or West. Humans have gathered around the flame since the beginning of time – I actually want my family to gather around our fireplace in the same manner! Since the fall brings a much-enjoyed temperature change, I will schedule a fireplace check-up to play it safe! I’ve called the chimney sweep already, so they will check my fireplace and clear me for usage. Until then, I’ve checked the fireplace myself, and I can see where there is a need for some fireplace safety repairs that I will gladly leave to the pros! One thing for sure that needs to be tended to on my fireplace, which is the damper. Something came off it last year, and I stopped using the fireplace as a result. I wasn’t sure of the part that I found in the fireplace hearth, so they will check that broken part and the damper on the fireplace as well. Keeping the damper open is like having a window open in the Wintertime! It will allow warm air to go up the chimney, and in order to gather around the fireplace this Wintertime, I will need to close that damper! They will also check the deposits left behind in the chimney, and scrub the fireplace from bottom to top. I spoke to my family last year, and will again about the dangers of burning newspapers and Christmas wrapping in the fireplace. The burning embers of those papers can land on the roof, causing disfigure. I want to use the fireplace and I cannot wait for the right weather. However, not before the professionals come out and check, scrub and repair my fireplace!
