We made it through winter
Family comes first. I was taught that from the earliest of ages. Perhaps taught is the wrong word. In fact, I was shown that family comes first. Within our extended family, there was always an example of one member of the family helping another one. There were aunts and uncles who took in cousins. Sons looking after sisters. It’s just how it was done. I am now putting my money where my mouth is with this principle. My mother has finally gotten to the stage where she needs attention. She is fiercely independent, but the time has come to bring her close to me. None of us have a ton of money, but my siblings and I decided she should come here since I live furthest South. I think that is the biggest of her challenges. Her home doesn’t have adequate HVAC for her now that she is elderly. The system is old so, it’s cheaper to bring her here for the winter months than replace the her old kerosene wall unit. The heater does a pretty good job knocking off the chill. But honestly, it was not meant to do the job of an HVAC unit with a legit furnace. I know my heat pump will surely keep her warm on the odd days it gets chilly. However, she’s a mountain woman so she’ll probably scoff at the very idea of turning on the heat when its only 48 degrees outside. My blood has thinned considerably over all the years of living down here. There is no way I could make it through a winter at my Mom’s place. I feel good knowing that my HVAC system will keep my Mom warm this coming winter. She deserves at least that.
